How to be smarter than a scammer

Identify

Is the message triggering panic? Requires you to act fast and has a link? If you say yes to all these, it's a scam.

Avoid

Take extra measures to protect your personal info to avoid getting scammed. Don't click links and never share your OTP.

Prevent

In case of a fraud experience, reset your online banking password and lock your card on BDO Online. Call us at (02) 8888-0000.

Look out for these common credit card scams

Scam Emails or Phishing

WATCH OUT: Fraudsters could send emails from a suspicious email address urging you to click a link.

Scam Calls or Vishing

WATCH OUT: A scammer, impersonating a bank representative, could call you and ask for your credit card information.

Scam Texts or Smishing

WATCH OUT: Fraudsters send out texts, offering fake credit card rewards and fake transactions requiring verification through a link.

Always remember:

Never share credit card details like your card number, expiry date, 3-digit security code or CVV, and your One-Time PIN (OTP).

Keep your card in your possession at all times. Do not let others borrow or use your credit card.

Update your contact details regularly for easier communication with the bank on your account, transfers, and purchases.

Monitor your statement of account. Review purchases and transactions, and report inaccuracies or fraudulent transactions immediately.

Dispose of your old cards properly. Ensure that the card expiry, CVV, magnetic strip, and chip are all punctured before disposal.

Lost or stolen card? Follow these steps:

Lock your credit card via the BDO Online app. Log in to your app. Go to More > Manage Cards > Tap the Credit Card that you would like to lock, then toggle on Lock Card
If you receive an alert from BDO or BDO Alert for a transaction you did not make, you can reply to the text message to block your card. Follow the instructions in the message. (Example: Text UN NO <Reference Number> to 225678)
