Life Insurance Plan Options

What is the right plan for me?

BDO Life offers you a wide range of peso and dollar-denominated life insurance products to create a secure future for you and your family.
Here is a list of the most common financial needs people have, which life insurance can meet. Even before choosing a product, you will first have to decide which needs represent your highest priority.

  1. Funds for final expenses, such as hospitalization and funeral costs, upon the death of the family breadwinner
  2. Funds for debt liquidation upon the death of the family breadwinner
  3. Funds to pay estate taxes upon the death of the family breadwinner
  4. Funds to provide continuing income for the family after the death of the breadwinner
  5. Funds to help ensure your children attend the best university possible
  6. Funds to create a comfortable and dignified retirement
  7. Savings for your other personal needs and aspirations
  8. Protection and financial security for your employees

I am not sure what kind of life insurance plan is most beneficial to me and my family. Can someone help me make a decision?

BDO Life Financial Advisors (FAs) are always ready to assist you. You may approach our FAs stationed in any BDO branch. Alternatively, you may call our Customer Care Hotline at (632) 885-4110 or email us at info@bdolife.com.ph so we can schedule a meeting for you with one of our FAs.

Choosing My Beneficiaries

Who can I assign as my beneficiaries?

The most common beneficiaries are immediate family members or, in some cases,
business partners. These are the people to whom your insurance benefits will be paid
in case the event insured against occurs.

Filing a Death Claim

I am the beneficiary of one of your life insured who recently passed away. What are the basic requirements when filing a death claim?

The initial requirements when filing a death claim are:

a. DEATH CERTIFICATE - An Original NSO authenticated copy of the death
    certificate of the life insured will be required for submission. In case the death
    of the life insured occurred outside of the Philippines, the death certificate
    must be authenticated by the Philippine Consular Office in the country/state
    where said certificate was issued;

b. CLAIMANT’S STATEMENT – To be filled out by each of the designated
    beneficiaries for submission (please call us at 885-4110 or email us at
    wecare@ bdolife.com.ph so we can send you a copy of the form for your use);

c. ATTENDING PHYSICIAN’S STATEMENT/ S –This must be accomplished
    by the Physician/s who attended to the deceased. The form should be duly
    notarized together with medical records, including records of any laboratory &
    diagnostic procedures done.

d. ORIGINAL NSO AUTHENTICATED MARRIAGE CONTRACT – This is
    required if a designated beneficiary is the spouse of the life insured;

e. POLICY CONTRACT– If lost or no longer available, an Affidavit of Loss
    duly notarized shall be required for submission;

f. NSO AUTHENTICATED BIRTH/BAPTISMAL CERTIFICATE OF THE
   LIFE INSURED;

g. VALID IDENTIFICATION DOCUMENT OF THE BENECIFICIARIES
(preferably government-issued);

To obtain a copy of any of the forms mentioned above, please call us at 885-4110 or email us at
we-care@bdolife.com.ph so we can send you the required form for your use.

Maintaining My Policy

Can I take a loan against my policy?

Depending on your plan type, you may apply for a loan amounting to as much as 85% of the earned cash value of your policy in case of an emergency. Please give us a call so we can review your policy and advise you accordingly.

I was not able to pay my policy's premium on its due date. Does it mean my policy has already lapsed?

Your policy has a 30-day grace period. You may still pay your premium within 30 days from its due date.

I was informed that my policy had lapsed, what should I do?

I have a permanent life insurance policy from BDO Lifeand have been paying my premiums for several years but can no longer continue paying for it. What options do I have?

Depending on your policy type, we may still provide you the following options:

  • Reduced Paid-Up Insurance – Use your policy's net cash value to purchase a paid-up insurance plan similar to your original policy albeit with a new coverage amount smaller than that of your original policy.
  • Extended Term Insurance – Use your policy's net cash value to pay for a term insurance plan with the same amount of coverage as your original policy but with a protection period which may be shorter than your policy’s original term.
  • Policy Loan – You may take out a loan against the policy's cash value to pay for your overdue premium. This will keep the original policy in force for the full amount of coverage, as long as the cash value is sufficient to pay for the due premiums. However, should the loan amount (inclusive of interest charges) exceed the policy's cash value, the policy will lapse. Please note that any balance of your policy loan will be deducted from the proceeds of your insurance.
  • Surrendering the policy for its accumulated cash surrender value, if any.
I recently took out a loan from a bank and they required me to secure a life insurance policy as part of the loan requirements. Can I assign my BDO Life insurance policy for this purpose?

Yes. If unencumbered, your individual life insurance policy may be assigned to the
bank. You will be required to submit a notarized Assignment of Life Insurance Policy
form which you can obtain from our Customer Service Department (CSD) or at any of
our Sales offices. Please give us a call so that we can check your policy.

How do I inquire about the status of my policy?

You may call our Customer Service Hotline at (632) 885-4110 from Monday to Friday
between 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM.

Updating My Records

I got married last year and moved to a new home. How do I update my name and contact details in your records?

Simply fill out a Policy Amendment form which, for your convenience, we can email
to you upon request. You may also get a copy of the said form from our Head Office
or from your financial advisor/servicing agent. Please remember to attach a
photocopy of your valid ID with picture for verification purposes.
